Memory foam pillows last for years — if you look after them the right way. The most important rule: don't put the foam in the washing machine. Water and spinning can tear the foam and it takes a very long time to dry. Here's how to keep everything fresh.
Washing the cover
- Unzip and remove the cover.
- Machine-wash it on a gentle cycle in cool or lukewarm water (up to 86°F / 30°C) with a mild detergent.
- Air-dry it or tumble-dry on low, following the care label.
- Make sure it's completely dry before putting it back on the pillow.
Tip: washing the cover every 2–4 weeks keeps your pillow feeling fresh.
Cleaning the foam
- Spot-clean small marks with a cloth dampened in water and a little mild soap. Dab gently — don't rub hard or soak the foam.
- Let it air-dry completely in a well-ventilated room, away from direct sunlight and heaters.
- To freshen the foam, sprinkle a little baking soda over it, leave it for a few hours, then vacuum it off with a soft brush attachment.
Everyday care
- Air the pillow out for a few hours from time to time — open a window or leave it uncovered in the morning.
- Use a pillow protector under the cover for extra protection from spills and sweat.
- New memory foam can have a light "new product" smell. Letting it air out for 24–48 hours usually solves it.
When to replace your pillow
If the foam stays dented, crumbles or no longer springs back after you press it, it's time for a new one.
The Pillowvia Cervical Pillow comes with a removable, machine-washable zip cover, so keeping it fresh is easy.
